IHSE USA’s KVM matrix switch gives Game Creek’s Spirit new flexibility for replay operations
Cranbury, New Jersey – Sept 10, 2014-After two successful KVM matrix switch installations in FX HD and RiverHawk, Game Creek Video told IHSE USA they were looking for something a little different for the next truck layout they were developing. Spirit, a new 53 foot Expando A/B truck design was just getting off the ground when Game Creek first partnered with IHSE USA. It was clear that IHSE USA’s matrix switch solutions would be the perfect candidate to pull off their new floor plan concept. The idea was to create a lot of people space so all replay operations in the B unit could operate as virtual workstations anywhere there was a workstation available – no matter if it was in the A-unit or B-unit.
“By incorporating the IHSE USA KVM matrix system and moving some of the replay operations into the B unit allowed us to incorporate a larger space in the audio room.” said Jason Taubman, Game Creek Video vice president of design and new technology. “The expansion of the audio room would provision a better layout supporting surround sound mixing and the KVM option would add greater flexibility to how we setup replay operations.”
To solve these requirements for Spirit, Game Creek decided on a Draco tera compact 80 port Hybrid matrix switch supporting both Cat5e/6 and fiber. Local connections would be accomplished via copper and the tie lines between trucks would be accomplished via CWDM fiber. To reduce the amount of fiber interconnects required between the A/B units, an 8 port CWDM multiplexer unit was used to tie both matrices together. Combining the two systems to create a single matrix solution was handled via IHSE USA’s new Grid Manager software – a bundled software package allowing up to 16 levels of KVM to be integrated into a single control environment. Game Creek used a combination of IHSE USA’s 474 and 477 Series extenders supporting DVI and VGA. Each matrix switch included redundant power and connected via a standard network interface for administration setup and diagnostics.
IHSE USA’s flex-port technology provided a huge time savings for pre-configuring ports to specific I/O requirements. The Draco tera compact switch system includes instant switching technology for all the popular formats up to and including 2560 x 2048 at 50/60Hz and full 24 bit resolutions. With incredible speed, switching between sources is glitch-free and instantaneous thus reducing eye strain and annoying video tearing found with other systems.
IHSE USA’s Draco CWDM 470 series were used as bi-directional passive optical multiplexers and demultiplexers to allow input and output connections between the two matrix switchers. The Draco CWDM combines up to 4 extenders over on singlemode fiber connection. Although the A/B units are normally located very close to each other, the CWDM could easily allow source connections up to 10km.
The 474 series extenders offer long distance transmission of DVI-I, DVI-D, USB-HID, USB 2.0, analog or digital audio and RS-232 or R422 control signals over Cat5e/6 or fiber optic cabling. Engineered for reliability and exceptional ultra high resolution image performance, the 474 series uses IHSE USA’s optimized compression technology to deliver perfect transmission of 24-bit digital video to 2048x1152 @ 60Hz (including 1920x1200 and 1080p video transports). These extenders provide virtually lossless image quality with IHSE’s X-Speed.
The 477 series extenders combine multiple video encoding technologies to deliver the very best picture while a pixel mapping ratio of 1:1 to ensures authentic display of the source video. With IHSE’s intelligent video encoding, the 477 series extenders ensure outstanding visual display, a critical feature for businesses demanding high quality full motion video. When there is a need to deliver full screen motion video, the series 477 has the capability to process full screen moving video in real time without artifacts and near zero latency. Both DVI and VGA are supported formats for this series of extenders.
